There is so much to unpack here..so much. First off, I’ve been watching Thai lakorns for over 15yrs now (I’m Haitian-American). My first romantic pair was Pat/Por. This is to give you a backdrop of how much I’ve followed the old & the NEW stars that have come in be it C3, C7, former C5- turned to GMMTV.
Weir is definitely in my top 10 of great Thai male actors. As far as Thai hotties he’s in top 5. Weir is amazing. His catalog of lakorns is on point and when I saw this I said…”Wait, what…Weir is that you..?” Then I said…please make sure there’s no Pancake or Min. PASS! If it’s Preaw…ALRIGHT!
But who did they give me?!
They gave me my favorite C7 actress!!! They gave me MOOKDA!!!!! MOOKDA!!!
Guys, you have no idea how much I adore this actress. She just has charisma, she’s super beautiful, she’s cat-like & sneaky features but can be cute and vulnerable. Basically, she can carry every emotion in a scene.
Pluses to expect:
1. Good chemistry – Weir tends to flow w/ his co-stars. I shipped Mookda w/ one actor previously but then I saw her in two other lakorns and realized I could ship her w/ anyone so I know her and Weir won’t be a problem. She’s a shippable actress.
2. They’re attractive people who can hold a scene. I’m all in for that.
3. It’s a drama w/ seeming no element of comedy. I like Weir playing a mature adult role befitting his age. He’s 35 so this works for me. The quandary comes to Mookda’s age which segues into the cons…
Cons
1. The failure of a lot of Thai lakorns is the age gap storyline – little girl/boy young mommies with older disgruntled fathers. I can list a few and I believe Weir already had one before.
2. Weir is being paired with women who are younger and younger and younger. I love and adore Mookda and she has the chops to hold her own w/ Weir but all the new female stars seem to be graduating through him. It makes me a bit worried about how much the writers put into the story. Meh, maybe they’re looking for the next Pancake/or Min for Weir. I haven’t a clue.
3. The real premise of the story has no depth or originality. It’s recycled; if not the entire story. It’s been a thing now in Thai-lakorn business & definitely C7 to redo old lakorns from the early 90s/2000s. This sort of story – A young girl returns from abroad after father dies and is forced into a marriage.* We’ve got to do better than forced marriages either through death or need of money or both.
*This has been done so many times in lakorns we have to find another word than “trope” for it. We can remove “girl” from abroad and put “boy/man” and he’s forced into a marriage. This is across EVERY SINGLE Asian drama (excluding Taiwan) I’ve seen. It’s epic in Turkey as well. At least there’s no rape in this one…or let’s hope so.
I’ll review each episode more succinctly than this.
