  1. Review:The King and the Clown (2005)

I’m happy and excited to finally be watching this drama that I have been trying to watch for years.

Our first glimpse of Lee Joon Gi face set our hearts in a flutter his face was so perfect, handsome and smooth. His smile is so mesmerising, a pure and innocent face. They performed a kind of bawdy act on the tight wire.

A more violent introduction in the beginning that I have seen in the review as Kam Woo SungJang Seng tried to protect him from being pimped out to nobleman. So straightaway starts sad. Kam Woo SungJang Seng goes in the rescue him. They are chased by guards and a violent fight ensued but they escape.

They flee to Seoul and start a play mocking and satirising the king. They get to perform for the King. If he laughs they will be freed if not they will lose their heads. The King does laugh and appoints them Kings Clowns. The King is highly amused but not his ministers.

The King starts to lust after Gong-pil and sends for him to come to his quarters. Gong-pil tries to play for time by showing the King his performing puppets. The King becomes obsessed with Gong-pil. He calls him to his chambers often. His innocence appeals to the King.

The jesters want to leave the palace after one more performance. Can’t get over how absolutely beautiful Goon-pil and I understand why the King is attracted to him.

Tragedy occurs because the King can not separate fact from fiction. Satire from reality. It was too close to the truth. Then the Palace Harlem comes into play when their jealousy of Gong-pil gets too much. They accuse him of maligning the King but Jang Seng comes to his defence and is taken away to be executed.

Such a magnificence of performance by Lee Joon Gi especially as Jang Seng gets his eyes burnt out. Totally earned all the accolades reaped upon him for this movie.

It was sad but it was rapturous in highlighting of Lee Joon Gi s phenomenal and superior skill in acting. I love it so much. It was impressive, remarkable and awe-inspiring. I’m glad that I have experienced the wonder, the splendour and the magic of the young Lee Joon Gi honing himself into the master actor he is today. So, so good.
